You either brought home or received some flowers from Bloom & Pour. A few easy steps will get you on your way to extending the life of your fresh-cut flowers.

1. Choosing the Right Vase

  • Height: Pick a vase that’s the same height as your flowers or shorter.

  • Opening: Make sure the opening is wide enough for the stems, but not too big. We recommend 5-7 stems per inch of vase diameter, but this varies depending on the type of flowers.

2. Preparing Your Vase

  • Clean your vase: Wash it with warm soapy water and rinse it well.

  • Add fresh water: Fill the vase with cool, clean water so that the stems are submerged at least halfway.

3. Cleaning Your Flowers

  • Unwrap your bouquet: Carefully remove any wrapping.

  • Remove submerged leaves: Cut off any leaves that will sit in the water. Leaves in water can cause bacteria to grow.

  • Keep leaves above water: Make sure the remaining leaves stay out of the water.

4. Arranging Your Flowers

  • Trim stems: Cut at least ½ inch off the bottom of each stem using sharp, clean scissors or shears.

  • Place in water right away: After cutting, place your flowers in the vase immediately to hydrate them.

  • Get creative: Feel free to arrange the flowers however you like, or simply drop the tied bouquet into the vase.

5. Trim Stems & Refresh Water

  • Trim every 2-3 days: Cut another ½ inch off the stems every couple of days to keep them hydrated.

  • Refresh the water: Change the water every 1-2 days to prevent bacteria build-up.

6. Other Tips for Long-Lasting Blooms

  • Avoid sunlight and heat: Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources like vents.

  • Cool spot: Flowers last longer in a cooler space, so avoid placing them in a hot area.

  • Remove wilting stems: As flowers age, remove any wilting stems to prevent bacteria from spreading to the others.

  • With these easy steps, your flowers will stay happy and fresh for longer!!
